Consolidated references and FAQs
Mail-it
eMails a problem report for that page. This is a good way to get back to me with a page
reference so that I know exactly which page you are commenting about. Remember I only
speak ENGLISH.
SiteMap
There are currently 2 main types of index:
MS Index generated by FrontPage. It has the
ability to read
the whole site and catalogue everything.
Graphical site map which can show you want is new. This
tool looks good, but is not perfect. I feel it is still worth having, and the sites
navigation is a key issue with additional development in progress.
Translation
Translation Traduction, Übersetzung, Traduzione, Tradução, Traducción
This is cool. I dont speak any thing other that English, but at bable fish, it does. If
English is not your first language, this will translate the site into:
» French,
» Spanish,
» German,
» Italian,
» Portuguese and so on.
BUT it is a Machine -
Its bad enough for a human to think in the the other language, a machine can only give you
a feel of what is said. We rely on members to offer their services to translate into their
native language.
You can have all of this in a browser
such as Internet Explorer 5, so that you can translate ANY website. AV Power Tools gives new
functionality to Internet Explorer 5. For example, the customisable AV Tracker explorer
bar gives you instant access to AltaVista Search, news, sports, weather, and stocks. Also,
AV Translation (Babel Fish) makes translating web pages into five major languages as easy
as a mouse "click".
Mind-It monitors web pages,
and when they change it sends a notification to you, with a link so you can visit that
page. This is useful for the contacts pages for your region, or for pages of special
interest, such as the stories page perhaps? There is plenty of help on the site to show
you have to get the most out of it for you.
Up This takes you to the natural parent of this topic, as you may have accessed this page
from a cross reference.
Sub-Sections The links below this are book marks on the current page.
Links above this are off the current page. The links are "
"
with no border sometimes link borders really irritate me.
Is the Adult logo, showing that this is a site
aimed at 18 year old young adults. Clicking on here will take you to the "Legal
stuff" for the site. Because many other sites have a click here if 18, else go away,
this page also has an explanation allowing you to find the start of the doghouse.
Not everyone has English as their first language. I
would like to allow this site to be of value to you if your English is not good; the
online translation above can help. However there are some people who have offered to
translate the web site into languages other than English, some examples are below. For the
most part the introduction to the site is the first part, some pages include:
German, Dutch, French etc.
These will be accessed in their own directory, such as: http://www.thedoghouse.org/german http://www.thedoghouse.org/spanish http://www.thedoghouse.org/chinese
International English
This is not another name for "American
English". It is taken to mean simplified English that is both easy to
translate, and based on "English as a Foreign Language". It is hoped to have a
connection to an online dictionary that could help you.
The navigation at the top of the screen has a series
of buttons to help you along your way. This site is heavily cross-referenced so you can
get lost in hyperspace. It is planned to have additional navigation at the top of the page,
that based on the navigation style used at Microsoft's
M S D N web site - since I am very
conversant with their technology, I use what I know, and its richness will only be
available if you are a MSIE user.
Java & JavaScript
Love it or Hate it, this site uses javascript. I am
trying to remain open to the widest number of browsers and also use the <NOSCRIPT>
where java is used.
There will be a lot of pure Java coming soon - so please upgrade your Browser.
CSS and DHTML
Well it does seem that Microsoft have got this
technology working well. Wherever possible I have tried to make it co-exist with non-MSIE4
browsers. I will put a "best viewed with MSIE" note on the pages that uses
DHTML etc.
